Abstract
This project will review, discuss, and suggest soil improvement technique(s) to improve the properties and parameters of different local soil type that will have problems when building foundations or other ground structures. Chapter Two summarizes the major techniques of soil improvement, which are Soil Reinforcement, Soil Treatment and Soil Chemical Stabilization. Soil reinforcement including: Vibroflotation, Soil nailing, Deep Soil nailing, Micro piles, Jet grouting, earth anchor , Geosynthetics, Compaction grouting, Deep Dynamic Compaction, Lime columns, Vibro concrete columns, Mechanically Stabilized Earth, Surface compaction, Electro-osmosis, sand drains, Compaction by blasting, soil cement, lime admixtures, fly ash dewatering, heating/freezing  and verification . Foundation on difficult Soils are discussed in Chapter Three. This chapter outlines the fundamental properties of three major soil conditionscollapsible soils, expansive soils, and sanitary landfillsand methods of construction of foundations on such difficult soils. Chapter Four summarizes the use of Fly Ash in soil improvement, and shows the experimental results of using this process in a different percentage. Results will be compared to determine the most suitable percentage to be used in practice taking into consideration the economic factor.  Soil improvement using Cement was discussed in Chapter Five and shows the experimental results of using cement to improve the soil with different percentage. The effect of cement on the parameter of soil, such as  shear strength, are also addressed, and then the most suitable percentage to be used in practice taking into consideration the economic factor.
