Various methods had been adopted by researchers to calculate the optimum insulation thickness that considered thermal conductivity of wall, building orientation effect, and heat gain or loss from the wall. The determination of the optimum insulation thickness of the building wall material has major drawback on building and insulation material cost, energy consumption by air conditioning system, heat transfer coefficient of wall on heat and cool demand. Different cities with different climate zones have been selected for this study such as Nablus, Ramallah, Jenien ,Tulkareem and Salfite. The optimum thickness in these cities will be calculated and compared with required thickness in west bank energy saving standard. The optimization is based on the life cycle cost analysis. Generalized charts for selecting the optimum insulation thickness as a function of degree days and wall thermal resistance are prepared. Life cycle savings of the insulated buildings are computed for Palestine. Savings up to 93 NIS/𝑚2 to 285 Nis/𝑚2 for wall and ceiling with board foam, polystyrene and Polyurethane foam insulation in west bank. Payback periods between 1.5 to 3.1 year are possible for board foam, Payback periods between 1.9 to 2.2 year are possible for polystyrene and Payback periods between 2.3 to 2.4year are possible for Polyurethane foam insulation depending on the type of wall structure
