- ItemLearning maths by using the activities of the Web Quest for the ninth grade pupils:"Emotion side"(2012) Akram Saleh Ahmad Saleh; Dr. Salah Al-Din Yasin; Dr. Wajeeh DaherSummary This study aimed at revealing the obstacles that hinder the ninth grade pupils usage of the internet for educational purposes, in the south of Tulkarm governorate. The study identifies the efficiency of using the academic activities of the Web Quest to stimulate the academic emotions in learning math, and to identify their views and preferences regarding to the use of the Web Quest in mathematics education. The study tries to answer the following questions: 1) What are the obstacles of learning mathematics by using the Internet? 2) How effective is the use of the Web Quest activities to raise academic emotions towards learning mathematics? 3) What are the preferences of students for the use of the Web Quest? To achieve this, the Web Quest has been designed for the lst unit (analytic geometry) of the maths syllabus for the ninth grade. This sample has been tested on purpose (56 students) who have got experience in dealing with the electronic pages in the internet. from (15 schools) in the south of Tulkarem governorate. They were given the Web Quest site. A clarifying issue was distributed to show them how to carry out the activities and distance communication through the Facebook site. The groups of students illustrated the Web Quest activities and the acquired educational sides they have got on a special Facebook page, and the study results showed the following : 1) There are obstacles of learning mathematics by using the Internet to the ninth grade students related to: a. Poor encouragement of both the students’ parents and their teachers on the use of the Internet. At the same time, students face a great encouragement from their mates to use the Internet in communication and acquaintance, for the purposes of recreation, leisure and fun, create the most obstacles that face students in learning mathematics. b. School syllabus doesn’t support learning through the internet, and doesn’t save suitable educational sites in turn, which is considered one of the most remarkable obstacles that students face in learning math. 2) Students show that they were happy and relaxed in the atmosphere of positive academic emotions, particularly when they carry out activities of the Web Quest in the atmosphere of collective work. Therefore, using the internet as a suitable environment for learning will motivate students to learn maths. 3) The students' opinions and their preferences for using Web Quest in learning mathematics shed light on the role assigned to the teachers to assist students through the use of this method, which had a positive impact of the learning, and the composition of positive emotions and the reduction of negative emotions among the proposals they have made. In light of the previous findings, the researcher has recommended the following: That the Department of Curricula at the Ministry of Education with the help of a web designers in order to raise academic emotions towards learning mathematics. And to train supervisors and teachers on the use of the Web Quest in education, and recommends the teachers to encourage students to use the internet for educational purposes, and to follow them through the methods of communication via the internet, and design activities of the Web Quest for them. Finally, he recommends the researchers to conduct further researches on the use of other methods to support learning, for all grades, levels and different topics of study.
