Abstract
Organizations big and small are moving their businesses to the cloud, avoiding the complexity and cost of owning and maintaining expensive hardware and software resources to execute intensive computations. In cloud computing, data travels to centralized, large servers for processing. However, the cloud traffic is increasing exponentially and the problem of latency is affecting the network performance. Another efficient computing option is edge computing which pushes the data processing power out to be handled by the edge devices, closer to the data source, which in some cases improves speed and connectivity as it takes the pressure off of the network. In our project, we will introduce an edge computing system with cloud using Edge- CloudSim simulator, which is an open source tool that provides a simulation platform for edge computing scenarios. The system consists of clients (edge nodes), edge server, cloud and orchestrator connected through a network [1]. The orchestrator decides where to execute the tasks of the client. They can be executed locally on the client or remotely on edge and cloud servers. We will provide an interfacing for the simulator to evaluate the decisions of the orchestrator when the available resources are changing such as the number of edge users and the network bandwidth and graph results to help specialists and developers modify the current orchestrator to provide adaptive decisions to the changing environment. In other words, the simulator will perform dynamic task allocation based on the available resources.
