Abstract
This project aimed to solve a variety of interconnected issues in Palestine mainly, and globally in general. At the current decade, the instability of the energy sector situation became the most significant issue in Palestine, that’s due to many factors: special political conditions and borders, lack of natural resources, financial crisis, and high-density population with significant consumption. Pyrolysis is an effective solution not only as a fuel source, but also in waste management and the various applications of its other industries, in addition to limit the pollution and emissions. The best temperature to perform tire pyrolysis was around 550 °C to prevent the liquids formed from being broken-down to gaseous molecules and to lower the formation of char. The main product from this process was the fuel liquids formed (pyrolysis oil). The gasses formed from the process were collected, as these gases can be used as a source of fuel in different applications pumped back into the reactor to form more TPO. This project studied the feasibility of using DTPO as alternative for ordinary diesel fuel in Palestine and to compare between these fuels, by using data from Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics (PCBS) about the number of licensed vehicles in Palestine in 2020 linked with nearby experiment done in Jenin. DTPO has a great Heating Value that varied from 42-43 (MJ/KJ) with lower cost, and emits less NOx, HC, CO emissions to the atmosphere. DTPO has some downsides such as the strong unpleasant smell and poor flash point, sulfur content is higher in TPO than in diesel even if TPO underwent a distillation process, but sulfur content in DTPO is considerably less when compared with TPO. From research it was found that pyrolysis of tires in Palestine can produce 625, 520, 280 and 91 tons of TPO, Char, Steel and Gas respectively from the total amount of tires, while fractional distillation can produce up to 69.7% of the total amount of TPO produced. The financial advantage was discovered for the entire weight of tires, which was 521.2, 1580 and 50 USD/ton for TPO, steel and char respectively.
