Abstract
Lighthouse building is a project of cultural and educational center to sever a specific group of people, namely the blind and visually impaired. The center aims to provide teaching and training services to those people in a smooth and easy way, free as much as possible from obstacles that enable them to integrate into society. Because the goal was the blind, we worked to meet the architectural specifications that allow providing a suitable environment for these people to serve their movement and their auxiliary tools for them. Moreover, the building should provide an environmental design in terms of acoustics and lighting according to the recommended specifications to provide safe passages for the blind, and to follow structural systems to attain a building that meets the architectural aspects. This have been done by doing literature review, site analysis, and case study analysis. Therefore, and after taking the standard in consideration, some modifications for architectural and environmental sides were done. Moreover, suitable structural system that serve the architectural design was prepared. We designed the building from all areas to provide comfort and safety for this category, as we designed the building from the acoustic survivor because this category relies heavily on the sense of hearing and the design in terms of lighting and environment to make the blind feel freedom and ease of movement within the building.
