Abstract
Energy plays an important Role in the evolution of the modern world. Where everything in our lives is an expression of one of the forms of energy. However, due to the unclean sources of energy used, pollution and its contaminations have increased rapidly. Therefore, humans became concerned and started searching for clean and renewable sources of energy to limit the effects of pollution on the environment. This project aims to design and study the feasibility of a new system, which generates clean and renewable energy in the city of Nablus, Palestine. Nablus city is one of the largest cities in Palestine, and due to the fast growth in population, the rate of electrical consumption has increased significantly. Therefore, this project introduce the Speed bump generating power system (SBGP), which is an energy recovering system. The main purpose of it is to harness the wasted kinetic energy from vehicles passing over a speed bump. The system primarily depends on a mechanical mechanism that converts the linear motion of the speed bump into rotational movement on the generator to generate electricity. Most of the projects done on this type of systems work on the principle of rack-pinion mechanism, where one pinion is in contact with the rack. However, this project design is based on two pinions in contact with the rack in order to enhance the efficiency of the overall system. The methodology of this project includes; designing of the mechanical system, which consist of springs, gears, shafts, bearings, and belts. In addition, selecting the proper electrical devices for the system. Moreover, designing the outer shape of the speed bumps so it be comfortable of the passengers and does not damage the passing vehicles. A theoretical output power was calculated, and a 6.574 W/vehicle can be generated through the system. A prototype of the proposed system was manufactured, the working concept of the project was clarified in the prototype. Results obtained from it proved the feasibility of the project. An output torque and velocity were taken, and 25watt of power was produces by an input force of 766N, which represents one fifth of the real weight of the car. The difference between the theoretical value and prototype value was because of the one-way bearing on the flywheel, which could not be included in the theoretical calculations.
