Abstract
From 2019 until now, Al-Sayed Mall, which consists of twelve floors, is being
implemented in the city of Qalqilya, and this mall has been chosen to be re-analyzed and re designed it in this graduation project with sixteen floors. The floors vary in usage, some
floors are hotels, storage, garages, some are offices, and some are restaurants. The external
walls were divided into shear walls with stone in some areas and into glass in others, and the
internal walls were divided into blocks in some areas and glass in others. This project was
analyzed and designed for gravity forces such as dead loads, superimposed dead loads, and
live loads, and it was also analyzed and designed for seismic forces. The Response Spectrum
method was used in the seismic analysis, and the Equivalent static method was used to check
the results of the Response Spectrum (value of base shear). The soil under the structure was
determined to be type C. Also, building frame system-ordinary reinforced concrete shear
walls was used in this project, meaning that seismic forces are loaded onto the shear walls
only, and vertical loads are on the frames. The appropriate dimensions for each structural and
non-structural elements were found in this project, such as slabs, beams, columns, and walls
of both types, and the structural plans which include layout and detailed reinforcement for
each structural element were prepared.
The reference in this project was several codes which are American Concrete Institute
ACI 318-11, American Society of Civil Engineers ASCE 7-10 and American Society for
Testing and Materials ASTM. This structure was represented on the Extended Three Dimensional Analysis and design of Building Systems -ETABS 16- software and the
14
structure was then analyzed and designed on this software. Several checks have been
performed on the results of the ETABS software in the analysis. Several checks have been
performed on the structural elements to check the serviceability, strength and stability of the
structure. Such as: checking the deflections with the two types of immediate and the long term deflection. The equilibrium check was done and the percentage of error was very small
in the results, not exceeding 5%. After that, several checks have been performed on seismic
forces analysis results to ensure the ability of the structure to withstand these seismic forces,
such as the p-delta effect, drift check, vertical and horizontal irregularities, the base shear
check, and the distribution of base shear on the floors.
