Abstract
The effect of black carbon on concrete was studied. The study revealed that the properties of concrete were enhanced by increasing the proportion of carbon till 4%. However, the effect of the size of black carbon particles on concrete was not mentioned, and this is what was studied in our project. Waste tire poses a serious ever-lasting environmental issue being that it is solid waste material spread worldwide. Although tire waste is seldom treated, there are still methods that might contribute to proper treatment and Pyrolysis is the most considerable or favorable method by far. Pyrolysis is basically a process which converts the fumes and gases from burning waste tire into fuel oil, steel and some byproducts mainly “Pyrolysis Carbon Black” denoted as PCB. The tests were done in the compression test. The results showed that in the 28-days test the strength can be ordered in ascending way where the particle size 75 μm was the size with the highest compressive strength. And in the 7-days test there is no regular arrangement. In the water adsorption test, the results were very close but the lowest absorption percentage was at 75 μm. In the slump test the particle size of PCB does not effect on the slump rate, as shown in the results chapter.
