Abstract
The idea of this project came out of the need of a bigger court in Nablus that can support the rising population number. To satisfy this need, a proposed building to be used as a court complex will be designed. The court complex contains two buildings connected to each other with three almost identical bridges. The first building, which is also the main building, has an area of 2325 m2 and the second building, which is the secondary building used for maintenance and offices, has an area of 881 m2. The building has 6 floors above ground and one basement under both buildings. The building is still in conceptual phase. A Three Dimensional model will be devised using both Etabs and SAP 2000, where the structure will be simulated under different loading conditions in real life situations and designed using American and local codes. The objectives in this project can be divided into group goals that include enhancing our theoretical and practical knowledge in structural analysis and designing, And to learn techniques that can help in solving problems that may face us in a practical and sensible manner which will prove worthy after graduation and to gain the sense needed in structural science and develop the ability to understand plans and apply codes and standards in the most effective and efficient way, and also into project goals and objectives which include achieving a model that will provide us with the necessary outputs from the structural analysis which will be the main core of the design procedure. Advanced design features may include fire resistant design and seismic design according to the standards and codes that will be chosen. The project will be divided into two parts, the first part will be all about creating a model and refining it as much as possible in order to get precise and accurate details which will lead to better analysis outputs and to define a preliminary design, the first stage of part one is to go through the project plans carefully in order to sort out the placing of columns and to divide the buildings into blocks, and to define the main assumptions and theories of the structural systems that are going to be used accordingly. And this will include defining the specification and characteristics of the structural and non-structural elements of the project in addition to the codes and standard which will be (IBC-2012, ASCE 07-10, and ACI-318-14) and will also include defining the different kinds of service loads that the structure will be subjected to such as gravity loads, live loads, seismic load, soil pressure loads … etc. in addition to the selection of the load combinations according to the codes, the second stage will focus on achieving a three dimensional model and the analysis of the devised structural system and the subjected loads by assuming a preliminary design using the obtained data which will later be analyzed to be certain that the input data and assumptions are fine. part two of the project will be more focused on getting a full-scale view of the design details of every element in the structural system such as the steel reinforcement and the dimensions of the cross-sections in addition to applying all the procedures and safety requirements of seismic analysis and design according to the targeted occupancy of the structure and to do all the necessary checks needed to ensure its safety and serviceability. Finally an official report that contains all the procedures related to the project and needed details including design detailed drawing sheets for every structural element of the project will be achieved.
