Abstract
Water is an essential element in life. It is used by all living things to grow and produce, in agricultural, industrial, household, recreational and environmental activities. So everyone is aiming at obtaining a good and proper quantity and quality of water as it is considered one of the most important elements for life to continue. Consuming water leads to the generation of wastewater. When the construction of a house, a complex, or a building is to take place there is a necessary step to be taken first, which is how these constructions are properly getting rid of their sewage. As in our country wastewater collection networks are not available in every community like in Ya’bad Village, cesspits are the most common way to get rid of sewage. This practice is a potential source of contamination and pollution to the soil and groundwater and causes annoyance to human beings. Therefore, a proper wastewater collection networks design is mandatory for this area as the function of the collection network is to collect and transport the wastewater from residential, commercial and industrial areas to the treatment plant or to the disposal area. As for stormwater, we should take into consideration the great amount of stormwater we receive in our country. Wasting all of this water that God has blessed us with and not carefully managing it has not only bad effects on the country but is also considered mis obeying God’s teachings. We noticed that Ya’bad Village does not have a proper system that manages it, where heavy rain causes surface runoff, this runoff comes from house roofs, streets, fields, mountains and cliffs, and all the runoff water generated from the storms is freely running on the streets, these accumulated runoff can cause serious and destructive problems if we do not have an adequate infrastructure to drain it, so a proper stormwater collection network design is necessary for Ya’bad Village, in order to be able to collect and to convey the stormwater from the streets to a good disposal area, and this network will reduce the problems mentioned above. To be able to present a proper wastewater collection design in Ya’bad Village, computer software such as SewerCAD and GIS were needed to know how to place the manholes, determine the loads and its calculations. After that all the charts, drawings, profiles and plans were obtained. But before that data from the study area was secured to design the network. Including topographic contour maps, buildings and roads. In addition, the sources of water, supply amounts, population also were known. As for the stormwater collection design we used StormCAD, GIS, AutoCAD and Excel software program in order to design and present this network. We calculated the area of the catchments, the runoff coefficient and the time of concentration for these catchments and then we obtained the results of this design in the form of tables and profiles. The output from this graduation project was a proper design for a wastewater and a stormwater collection networks for Ya’bad Village that meets the design specifications and allows a good water and sewage collection and transport.
