Abstract
Foundation is the part of a building which is located below ground level (lower portion of the structure) and transmits loads to the supporting soil or rocks. The main function of foundation is to transmit safely the high concentrated column or wall reactions to the ground without causing failure of soil or unsafe differential settlement of the supported structure .There is two main types of foundations which are shallow foundations and deep foundations. Why we need a Foundation Engineer? Foundation Engineer who specializes in the design and construction oversight of foundations and retaining structures. Foundation engineers determine the best way of transferring structural loads from buildings to soil and rock in a safe and economical manner. Restore and Improve Infrastructure 1-Faster: Engineers must learn to design and construct systems in a more efficient manner. 2-Cheaper: Systems must be constructed in a more economical manner. 3-Smarter: More environmentally friendly, more sustainable, Reusable and Recyclable. Project Description Aim of the Project This project aims to design foundations for a residual building on several types of soil then make comparison between the outcomes. Building Description The building consists of 9 stories all of them have the same area, height and uses. The area for each floor is 450 m2 and the height of each floor in this building is 3m. Summary of the Project This project consist of four chapters, Chapter One is a general introduction and site description, then discuss what is foundation ,functions and requirements of foundations ,bearing capacity ,types of settlement and the warning in Chapter Two. Chapter Three presents site investigation of soil. The structural system for the building is described in Chapter Four.
