Abstract
The project presents an assessment and redesign of a Youth Development Resource Center - The Good Shepherd Club- in Jericho city, it has been recently implemented. This center offers various courses and cultural activities for different age groups in different fields, brings young people closer to the labor market, and carries out meetings to exchange cultures, experiences and talents. The importance of such centers for youth and it’s the only cultural center in Jericho city, was the result of why we choose this project. This project consists of two phases: assessment and redesign of the youth center building. At first phase the building was analyzed in all engineering aspects to understand the building weaknesses, the aim of the assessment phase was to collect all the weaknesses and strengthen them in the redesign stage. The building was analyzed from the architectural aspect in terms of building orientation and spaces’ organization, which depend on the building’s function. It was also analyzed from the environmental aspect, especially in term of thermal comfort due to Jericho city hot climate. The building structure was analyzed in term of evaluate the used structural system. In addition it was analyzed from electromechanical aspects. We used DialuxEvo, DesignBuilder,Ecotect and Insul software programs to simulate the building environmental aspect. The results from these programs were evaluated then compared with standards. After determining the efficiency of the building performance in deferent aspects, we consider the first phase as a base model to be compared and redesigned in the second phase. In the second phase, the building new plans and 3D model will be prepared, by using the AutoCAD, Revit and Lumen programs, the architectural design shell be appropriate to the functionality of the building, and the environmental requirements including orientation, natural ventilation, daylighting, acoustical performance and passive design. In addition, the building will be designed environmentally using new construction materials according to the result of the assessment phase using various simulation programs such as Design Builder, Ecotect and Insul. The building structural system will be designed including 3D modeling, soil structure interaction and seismic analysis using various computer programs such as: ETABS, SAFE, CSI detailing. In addition the building electromechanical system will be designed using some computer programs such as: Design Builder, Ductolator and DIAlux.evo.The HVAC (heating, ventilating, and air conditioning system), mechanical ventilation, water supply, drainage systems will be designed through the mechanical design. Also, the electrical design includes lighting, speakers and power systems. Finally, emergency exits, fire protection, and photovoltaic solar system will be designed. In the end of the project the quantities and cost for the building will be calculated.
