Abstract
There are approximately 200 currencies all over the world, with each of them looking totally different. For example the size of the paper is different, the same as the color and pattern, It is difficult for people to recognize currencies from different countries. The aim of our system is basically to help people who need to recognize different currencies and convert them into other currencies without human supervision, and also to help blind people to identify currencies using voice. The software interface that we are proposing for our system here could be used for various currencies (we are using four in our project), we will build the system using Android and image processing techniques. With the development of technology android smart phones are equipped with additional application can help normal and visually challenged people. The image processing approach is discussed with openCv for paper currency recognition and conversion to detect the features of currency. Image Processing involves changing the nature of an image in order to improve its pictorial information for human interpretation. There are various techniques for currency recognition that involve texture, pattern, feature or color based that will be used to find most suitable techniques for the system. After studying different currencies and considering the availability, we have chosen 4 currencies to work on for this project. The chosen currencies are Israeli Shekel (ILS), Jordan Dinar (JOD), Euro (EUR), and US Dollar (USD).
