Abstract
Station is an important component of transportation policy and management in any city. The policies and management practices affecting station lead to outcomes that, in turn, can affect land-use, air quality, traffic congestion, travel behavior, safety, and economic development. In fact, stations are places where stopping prohibited and services must be available. The intended graduation project will be an integrated design of a public transportation station. Most station lots located on public station facilities each have an automated entry/exit system which includes automated barriers and a cash register as well as a video surveillance system. The main objective of this project is to design a public station that is structurally safe and environmentally comfortable. To fulfill the mentioned objective a literature review represented by reading books and articles will be conducted in order to determine the necessary informations and requirements for station facilities design. Then two case studies (national and international) will be investigated in a way that give more details about similar project, such as topographical nature and surrounding environment, then to the role of integrated design of station in terms of architectural design including spaces and orientation, and environmental design including ventilation , lighting and acoustics system. The site will be analyzed before discussing the project program. Finally, in 1st semester, the design for station building was be prepared includes plans, sections, and elevations in way that represent architectural, environmental, structural, mechanical, transportation consideration. Throughout the design process of all building aspects, various software were used such as AutoCAD, 3D Max 2015, DIALux evo, Ecotect, Design Builder, INSUL, ETABS and SAP2000. The process that eventually led to the integrated station building went through ordered steps. The first one was to analyze the site on which the station was aimed to be constructed in terms of its topographical nature and surrounding environment. Then came to the role of integrated design of the building in terms of architectural design including spaces and orientation, and environmental design including ventilation, lighting and acoustics systems. As for structural design, it included firstly the analysis of the 3D model of the building, soil-structure interaction and seismic analysis then came to the design process using computer software. The HVAC, water, and sanitary systems were designed throughout the mechanical design stage. The electrical design was introduced including lighting and power systems and control panel design. Finally, emergency exits and an alarm system were also included in the public safety design. The above tasks were distributed on two stages, one in each semester. In the first semester (2017/2018), throughout graduation project I, information was collected regarding all integrated design aspects by making a literature review and site analysis. This was followed by architectural design that included producing building plans, one elevation and one section at least of the ground and first floor. In the next semester (2018), throughout Graduation project II, all remaining project tasks involving the remaining part of the architectural design together with the design of structural, environmental, mechanical, electrical and safety systems were all performed. The results and outcomes were introduced in the form of a report with attached tender documents. These documents include design details, tables of quantities and shop drawings.
