Abstract
AbstractFAMO, is a 3-axis multi-tool computer numerically controlled machine (CNC) that can be used as a 3-axis plotter, engraver, cutter or milling machine. Depending on the tool that is attached to the mobile head and the program used.So the importance of this project lies in the industrial and economical aspects of our lives; that is because it provides a modern alternative to the traditional machining stations, producing work pieces with good quality in reduced time and with fewer efforts. The main aspects covered in this project are: the mechanical design the electrical and electronic wiring and components, the control system and the software and programming. The main objectives of this project are:1- Applying the skills and sciences learned in mechatronics and creating a complete and integrated mechatronics system.2- Building up a CNC machine with good quality and less expensive locally.3- Enhancing the industry in our country by providing the workshops and factories with locally made machines that can compete in the local market against the imported ones.4- Enhancing the economy by making CNC machines with less cost than those made outside. Our machine consists of two main parts, the first is the frame which has been through major changes and many prototypes. Its made of wood, steel and plastic. The wood was cut using a CNC machine to get maximum accuracy. The second is the software or the control system that controls the movement of the machine which is Arduino based. The control system consists of the Arduino, a CNC shield and the drivers. It is programmed so that it takes in G-Code and translates the code to signals and pulses the motors can understand. The G-Code is made using any of the CAM/CAD software then its streamed from the computer to the Arduino using serial port..
