Abstract
This project considers integrated design of Al-Quds Open University which is to be constructed in Salfeet city. This building is one of 24 educational institutes and centers that Al-Quds Open University has all over the West Bank and Gaza Strip. Salfeet city and the surrounding regions lack the existence of universities and high educational institutes, knowing that the nearest ones are located in Nablus and students need to relatively long trips to get there. Moreover, open universities do not obligate students to attend to all lectures throughout the semester, and this helps the students in that region as there is a large number of them committed to social and business obligations. All these facts prompted us to redesign a pre-designed open university that satisfies students needs. The first step of this project is to analyze the site on which the university will be constructed in terms of its topographical nature and the surrounding environment. Then comes the role of the integrated design of the building in terms of architectural design including spaces and orientation, and environmental design including ventilation, lighting and acoustics systems, knowing that a primary design of the building is available and to be subjected to the needed modifications to match the required standards. Structural design including analysis of 3D model of the building, soil-structure interaction and seismic analysis and design using a computer software. The HVAC, water, and sanitary systems will be designed throughout the mechanical design stage. The electrical design will be introduced including lighting and power systems and control panel design. Finally, emergency exits and an alarm system will also be included in the public safety design. At the end of the project, a comprehensive report that shows tender documents will be introduced. These documents include design details, tables of quantities and shop drawings.
