Abstract
This project aims to design ZAMZAM building which is a multi-story commercial building that lies in Nablus-Rafedia. The building consists of an eleven stories and has a plane area of about 591 m2/floor, as shown in the figure 1.1. The first two basements will be used as parking garages. A height of 3m is going to be used for all stories.  The floor will be designed to carry a dead load consisting of the own weight of the slab and a super imposed dead load of 300Kg/m2, in addition to a distributed Live loads depends on the usage of each floor, since we have a garages, warehouses, offices, and residential units. The building will be first designed statically for the gravity loads, and then dynamic analysis will be performed for the seismic loads. The project will be conceptually proportioned and then analysed under the static loads. It will be designed also for earthquake. We will make preliminary design for some elements, and then we will analyse it using SAP2000 program. We will compare between two alternatives (one-way solid slab, and one-way ribbed slab) then we will choose the best alternate based on deflection and total weight of building. Detailing of structural elements will be provided after we take the response of earthquake loads. The building is a residential building which is a common type in Palestine. The building has many interesting features such as different structural systems (long cantilevers), and irregularities. This will help us to be more familiar with these challenges. In this report we will discuss in the first stage (Static Loads) the analysis of building under static loads. To do so, we will build a 3D model using SAP2000 program, and do the required checks for the model, like period, compatibility, stress-strain relationships, and other checks. Then we will show a preliminary design for some structural elements based on the static analysis results. After that in the second phase (Dynamic Loads) we will analyse the building using a 3D model under the earthquake loads, and make final design for the structural elements based on this analysis. Also we will discuss the results we obtain in this report.
