Abstract
Abstract Rafedia Corridor is the major line of transportation that connects Nablus with the western villages like Bait-Wazan, Junaid and others. It is also the road that leads to Qalqilya. Recently this road was expanded to serve the new campus of An-Najah National University.  This Corridor is distinguished with high traffic volume especially in the evenings and vacations, mornings and afternoons in the workdays because it is a main Corridor that serves the urban area. Rafedia Street is classified as an Urban Arterial Highways, which has a length of 3.5 Km. It can be divided into two parts. The first part extends from Yasser Arafat Street / Bait Wazan intersection to Rafedia Street / Tunis Street intersection; the second part extends from Rafedia Street / Tunis Street intersection to the to Prince Mohammad Street / Ahmad Al-Shaka'a Street intersection. The objectives of this project are to analyze and improve the existing conditions of Rafedia Corridor, the proper evaluation was performed for the section that extend from Yasser Arafat Street / Bait Wazan intersection in the east to Prince Mohammad street / Ahmad Al-Shaka'a Street intersection in the west.   The street classification is Urban Arterial Highway; Bus was chosen as the design vehicle with a design speed of 50 Km/hr. From the overall analysis of the traffic and geometric existing conditions, it was clarified that the Corridor has a significant problems which cause the demand to exceed the capacity, increase congestion, and operating the street at not appropriate LOS. After collecting the information and the observations in Rafedia Corridor, the data will be analyzed. Analysis of existing conditions includes traffic volume data which was analyzed by Excel sheet to find Peak Hour (PH), Peak Hour Volume (PHV) and Peak Hour Factor (PHF). Analysis also includes capacity and Level-of-Service (LOS) analysis which was performed utilizing Highway Capacity Software (HCS2000), and simulating the existing road network of Rafedia Corridor using Synchro 7 software.
