Abstract
Occupational safety and health is the discipline concerned with preserving and protecting human and facility resources at the workplace. Workers at this kind of industry might exposed to different kinds of hazards like chemical, physical and biological hazards. OSH standards aim to provide at least the minimum acceptable degree of protection that must be afforded to every worker in relation to the working conditions and dangers of injury, sickness or even death that may arise from work environment. The main Objective of this project is to Make the factory capable of applying occupational health and safety management system based on OHSAS 18001. Method: Studying the plant current situation to determine the gap between the current situation and OHSAS 18001 standard and the legal requirement that must appear to establish occupational health and safety system. Results: The factory is working at low level of safety requirements and the employees have lack of awareness about hazards that may expose to them at the work place. There are some hazards that have higher likelihood and severity like fire and explosions which cause huge damage to the factory if it occurs, dust, noise and heat affect the employees cumulatively when they expose to them for long periods especially when they Exceed the acceptable limits, dust and noise exceeded the acceptable limits in some plant departments so great attention must be taken to these hazards. Conclusion: By creating a positive, safe and healthy environment for employees, this can increase morale, and in turn, positively impact on the company business which leads to improve productivity, business performance and staff morale. Healthy workers are more motivated to stay in work and recover from sickness quicker. This will also be able to reduce accidents and work related ill health, sick pay costs and insurance costs.
