- ItemPersonal Characteristics and Creative Thinking of the Eleventh Grade Students in the Northern Governorates of Palestine(1998) Ali Nasha't Sha'ar; Dr. Mahmoud KuriObjective: The objective of the study was to identify: The relation between Personal characteristics and creative thinking of the eleventh grade students in the Northern Governorates of Palestine. The study attempted to answer the following questions: 1 -Are there any significant differences between boys and girls in relation to creative thinking and personal characteristics. 2 -Is there any relation between creativity and personal characteristics: Ability to deal with mystery; Independent thinking and judging; Critical ability; Flexibility; Reflective thinking; Open to experience; and Originality in thinking in the eleventh grade students. 3 -Is there any significant effect on creative thinking and personal characteristics from the place of residence (City, Refugee Camp and Village)? 4 -Is there any significant effect from the choice of academic stream on the creative thinking and personal characteristics of the students? Sample: The study population was composed on students who were in the eleventh grade in 1995-1996 from urban schools in the Northern West Bank, including science, literature and vocational steams. The sample included 18% of the student population. The 600 participating students were stratified according to sex academic streams,and place of residence (urban, refugee camp or village). Methodology: The study involved the use of two tests: a test of creative thinking and a test of personal characteristics. The first test measured: Fluency, Flexibility, Originality of measured, The second test measured: •Ability to deal with mystery. •Independent thinking and judging. •Critical ability. •Flexibility. •Reflective thinking. •Open to experience. •Originality in thinking. Findings: Person correlation showed a significant relation between creative thinking and personal characteristics. There are differences between girls and boys in creative thinking and personal characteristics on the advantage of girls. No differences between students on creative thinking due to the place of residence. Differences between students due to the place of residence on the personal characteristics are on the ability to deal with mystery and reflective thinking concerning city students VS village and refugee cap students. But there are no differences on the other characteristics. The study of the effect of steam of specialization on creative thinking showed that there is an effect concerning literature and scientific streams VS vocational stream. For the effect of stream of specialization on the personal characteristics, the study showed that in thinking and judging independence to the advantage of literature stream VS scientific and vocational streams. There are also differences in the reflective thinking and critical thinking to the advantage on scientific and literature VS vocational streams. Recommendations: Conducting future researches on the results of this study to know more about the reasons such as the differences between girls and boys, on creative thinking: Conducting future researches on creativity of the vocational stream. Applying creativity reinforcing curriculums in the educational institutions. Conducting future researches on creativity to study the differences regarding residency.
